Welcome to the Treasure Valley  IMA CHAPTER WEBSITE!

Darin Holderness

President, Treasure Valley Chapter of IMA

                                                                                                  August 12, 2010

Welcome to a new year of the IMA Treasure Valley Chapter!  This year, in addition to our experienced continuing board members, I am pleased to report that we have two new board members who will bring new ideas to help our Treasure Valley Chapter provide value to its members.  Dave Tilton has joined the board and works at Micron and Shannon Stith has joined us and works for Boise, Inc.  You can be confident that there is a qualified group of directors looking out for the interests of the Chapter.  As a board, we hope to deliver improvements to the way your chapter operates in the following areas:

Events One of our major objectives this year is to improve networking opportunities at our events and to standardize the timing so that our members can plan attendance as a regular part of their calendars.  While the calendar for the upcoming year is not yet finalized, there will be more plant tours this year and there will be some unconventional venues which we believe will enhance networking.  Our first plant tour is scheduled for August 17th and an hour of “CPE in the Park” is planned for Ann Morrison Park on September 21st.  We plan to schedule chapter events on or near the third Tuesday of each month, so you can mark your calendars now and hold a spot for the events.  Please see event details on “Upcoming Events” tab of our web-site.

Communications In addition to improving Chapter events this year, another part of the transformation of our Chapter is in our communications.  We plan to have a strong Linked-In, Facebook, and Twitter presence to enhance communications by and between the board and Chapter members.  Please select at least one of your favorite social networking tools and connect up with us on Twitter (@TVIMA), Facebook (www.facebook.com/tvima), or Linked-In (First Name= Treasure Valley, Last Name =IMA).  In the this digital age, a hard-copy of the membership roster will no longer be printed, but will be made available to members in the “Members-Only” section of our web-site.

Student Relations A board member has been assigned to work with area students to increase awareness of available opportunities in management accounting.  Scholarships will be offered to students who have the greatest potential to succeed in our field.  Prior-year scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to work with the board on student initiatives.

Certification As a CMA, I understand the value that my certification has brought to me throughout my career.  Through our relationship with Gleim, we will offer reduced-fee exam preparation and design our chapter events to encourage preparation and certification.

I encourage you to come to as many of the chapter events as you can this year.  I look forward to meeting (or reacquainting myself with) each member of the chapter on-line or at upcoming chapter events.  As always, I welcome your comments or ideas at any time at 442-6061 or via e-mail at doublepar@hotmail.com .

Sincerely;

Darin Holderness (2010-2011 President)
