Program Content: Managing Transitions: It is commonly said that “the only constant is change.” That’s true in both our professional and personal lives. Managing change and managing a transition is not the same. You can announce and implement a change; however, unless the people affected accept and adapt to the change, a transition has not occurred. Rather, the chairs have simply been shuffled, and may eventually return to their original locations. Learn how to successfully manage transitions by assisting yourself and your workforce to move through the three key stages of transition: ending and letting go, the neutral zone, and the new beginning. Interfacing Techniques: Effective interfacing in the workplace is more than basic interpersonal communication. It also includes listening, providing feedback, asking questions, familiarity with communication styles, as well as observing nonverbals and other communication clues. Professionals in many disciplines can enhance their organizational effectiveness by improving their ability to interact with peers, subordinates, and superiors. Learn how to enhance interfacing situations by aligning communication styles as well as developing techniques to contribute to successful professional interactions.

Introduction to Continuous Improvement -- Lean Accounting
Speaker: Chris Vashro has a BA in Accounting from Boise State University. He also holds an MBA from Northwest Nazarene University. Chris has held the position as Controller of a small credit union. He was in the Corporate Accounting department in one of the nation’s largest grocery store chains. Currently, he is Operations Accounting Supervisor for Simplot Growers Solutions a company of the J.R. Simplot Co. Chris was trained in Continuous Improvement through the Gemba Research Group and the Lean Enterprise Institute. He was the lead in a “Lean Transformation” which included 94 people and eleven departments.
Learning Objectives: Introduction to Lean concepts that were developed over 60 years by the Toyota Motor Co. as well as practical application of these concepts in the office setting.

Program Content: For almost 60 years the history of the Toyota Motor Co. is one of Continuous Improvement (C.I.). The idea of C.I. has transformed Toyota into the leading auto maker in the world. Treasure Valley Economic Update Speaker: Paul Hiller The man at the helm of the Boise Valley Economic Partnership has a long history of building strong bridges between robust communities and corporate leaders in search of a successful venue for their life’s work. Prior to coming to Boise as executive director of BVEP, Hiller was president and CEO of the Inland Empire Economic Partnership in Riverside, California. There he managed a multi-million dollar budget while providing the leadership to successfully market the region and create over 1,500 new jobs. While in California, Hiller’s professional experience included creating one of the most successful business attraction marketing models in the nation. A model used in Irvine, California to attract corporate headquarters, high tech, and manufacturing companies. Paul has ten years of private sector experience with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company at the Akron Ohio headquarters and Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corporation in Oakland California headquarters. He has worked in the Corporate Planning Departments of both companies locating company facilities. Hiller has an M.B.A., from Michigan State University and holds a B.S.B.A. in Business Administration from The University of Akron.

Speaker: Daniel David Bobinski’s career and passion for equipping managers has spanned 20 years. He’s created a track record of achievements in Fortune 500 companies such as Qualcomm and Clear Channel Communications, as well as small and mid-sized businesses. Speakers: Dara Bazzano – Dara is a partner in KPMG’s San Francisco Audit practice and has been with the firm for 9 years and a partner since 2006. She has more than 19 years of experience serving both public and private US and multi-national clients in all aspects of assurance. In addition to her financial reporting expertise, she has had extensive experience in capital raising including capital debt, mergers and acquisitions, and filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission. She has just completed a two year rotation in the West Area with the firm’s Department of Professional Practice (DPP) in New York. Areas of expertise are SEC filing matters, revenue recognition, debt and equity accounting, restructuring and impairment matters and business combinations. Dara advises a variety of clients, primarily in the consumer products and manufacturing environment and technology industries. Angella Eckert – Angella has worked on audit and management consulting engagements in a variety of industries, including forest products, financial services, technology, governmental, manufacturing, not-for-profit organizations and retail. Prior to joining the KPMG Boise office, Angella worked for two years in public accounting in Bermuda specializing in the investment banking and financial services industry. Angella has provided professional audit services to several large companies in accordance with PCAOB requirements and U.S. GAAP. Kurt Williams – Kurt Williams is a Manager in the Forensic Practice of KPMG based in the Boise office. Speakers: Cathy Crites, CMA — Cathy is currently the Operations Accounting Manager at J.R. Simplot Co. for the AgriBusiness Group headquartered in Boise and is responsible for managing the cost accounting function, including the development and monitoring of product costing systems and processes, other cost accounting projects, and all inventory control matters. Before joining J.R. Simplot Co. in 2003, Cathy held various cost accounting positions of increasing responsibility at chemical manufacturing plants in Idaho and Michigan with Monsanto Co. and Solutia, Inc. (the spin-off of Monsanto’s chemical businesses) over a ten year period. She graduated from the University of Idaho in 1993 with a B.S. in Accounting. Mollie Sweet, MBA, CMA, SPHR — Associate Professor of Business for Northwest Nazarene University, Mollie has been a professor since 2003. She has 5 years accounting experience in various industries ranging from a grocery giant to a leading title company. She earned a bachelor degree in Business Administration, majoring in Accounting and Human Resource Management, from Miami University (Oxford) and an MBA from Northwest Nazarene University.
